Snowboarding – Carve it
up
If you’re looking for an
adrenaline filled rush with the chance of spending time in some
of the worlds most pristine and idyllic surroundings –
snowboarding is the sport for you.
Inspired by the extreme riding
styles as well as the laid back attitude of skating and
surfing, snowboarding was developed in the United States in the
1960/70’s. Snowboarding has slowly but surely built it’s
reputation up to the point where it was acknowledged as an
official sport in 1984 and finally recognized as an Olympic
sport in 1998. In comparison to other sports snowboarding is
the new kid on the block.
Best Snowboarding Tricks
The journey to its current
status was not an easy one as there was initial resistance
& rivalry from skiers which lead to an ongoing skier vs.
snowboarder feud. As the equipment evolved and became
more high tech and the skill set of the snowboarders improved,
snowboarding gradually became more accepted.
As with skiing, snowboarding
has evolved and produced various riding styles along with the
associated equipment to suit. Freeride, freestyle, and
freecarve/race are the most popular.
Of all the styles, freeride is
the most common form of snowboarding. Freeriding may
include carve turns more common in alpine snowboarding, or jib
tricks aerial and tricks borrowed from freestyle, using
whatever natural terrain the rider may come across to pull
these tricks off.
The freestyle form of
snowboarding involves the use of man made objects to perform
jib or aerial tricks. This will involve mailboxes, tabletops,
boxes, handrails, jumps, half pipes or quarter pipes and is
generally suited to an urban environment.
Free carve takes on the same
concept as slalom skiing with a race/speed focus to the style.
This form of racing will usually take placed on groomed
mountain slopes with a predefined course.
To make things even more
complicated there are various forms of competition that have
evolved from these different styles:

Snowboarding has fast become a
way of life with strong punk and hip-hop roots. It was
the fusion of urban and suburban styles onto the slopes, which
made the transition from skateboarding and surfing culture over
