Snowboard Bindings: The Quick Alterative
Step in bindings, such as clicker snowboard bindings,
haven’t taken off to the extent that was originally expected
coupled with the fact that generally there is a higher cost to
manufacture due to the cost of precision machined components
that make up the mechanism. However clicker snowboard bindings
do still have a firm grip on the market place and have a firm
base of boarders that swear by them. As with any system,
these bindings have their plus sides as well as their
disadvantages.
The Downside:
Clicker snowboard bindings have been known to cause slight
discomfort to an extent, if you are not used to them. This is
not a huge downside but something to consider. If you get
a quality set, for instance K2 clicker bindings, this
becomes a non issue.
When wiping out, clicker snowboard bindings are known to
disengage from the boots so the recommendation is not to go for
big jumps.
One of the main downsides for clicker snowboard bindings is
that ice packs into the mechanism especially in deep snow.
You’ll need to be vigilant with this otherwise you’ll find
yourself chipping away and wasting valuable time on the slopes.
They can also be frustrating to put on while on an incline.
The Upside:
Clicker snowboard bindings generally are used by beginners
as they are quick and easy to use.
That being said, there are a number of experienced riders
that swear by them. K2 clicker bindings have made their mark
among many riders.
Clicker snowboard bindings are more carving/free riding
orientated. The energy transfer from your feet to the edges is
greatly enhanced resulting in better edge control. Toe to
heel response is probably well above average.
It must be noted that the boots are the key to a step-in
system. The stiffness has to come from the boot instead of the
straps and the high back of a conventional binding set up.
The final and key upside to clicker snowboard bindings is how
easy it is to click into while on a chairlift. Simply push down
and you’re ready to go with no down time trying to get strapped
in.
If you’re looking for a good set of clicker snowboard
bindings check out Burton, Ride and K2 clicker bindings.
Good K2 clicker bindings are the SST Pro, as well as the HB
steel. K2 clicker bindings definitely have the edge.
